How do I stop Google Lens from finding my photos?

Google Lens cannot reverse-match a photo if its fingerprint no longer matches the original. How does Google Lens find images?

What does image protection actually do to break the fingerprint?

Breaking the reverse-image-search fingerprint requires altering the image in ways that preserve legibility to humans but fragment the digital signature that search engines index. This involves four core transformations. First: metadata stripping removes embedded EXIF data, colour profiles and other technical information the fingerprint algorithm reads. Why can’t I just ask Google to remove my images?

More importantly, removal requests don’t affect TinEye, Bing Image Search, Yandex or dozens of other reverse-image platforms that also index and match images. Does this work for all types of design images?

Yes. The protection is format-agnostic; whether the image is a JPEG, PNG or WebP, and whether it’s a screenshot, a phone photo or a professional render, the same transformations apply. The only practical limit is legibility. If an image is already very small, low-contrast or heavily compressed, the watermark and colour shifts may become visible. What about privacy—where do my images go?

If an image has already been indexed by Google Lens or other search engines, protecting a new version prevents future matches—but doesn’t erase the original from existing indices. For this reason, the sooner you protect images in your workflow, the better.
