You cannot disable Google Lens itself, but you can make your images invisible to it. NoScrape processes your mood boards in your browser, stripping metadata, altering colour channels, cropping edges and applying a watermark so the reverse-image fingerprint no longer matches the original. No image leaves your device.
Why Google Lens matters to interior designers and architects
Google Lens exists to help anyone search by image. Point a camera at a sofa in your mood board, and Lens returns product links, similar items and the supplier’s website. For you, that means a client sees your carefully curated mood board, recognises a single piece, bypasses you, and buys direct from the supplier. You lose the commission. Architects and specifiers face the same risk: a client reverse-images a material sample or finish swatch, finds the manufacturer, negotiates their own price and relationship. Your value — the curation, specification and co-design process — becomes invisible.
Lens works by comparing the fingerprint of an image (a mathematical summary of its visual content) against billions of indexed images online. If the fingerprint matches, or comes close enough, Lens returns the source or similar results. The assumption that ‘Google doesn’t index mood boards’ is false. Any image you upload, email or share digitally can be crawled and indexed.
What does removing access to Google Lens actually mean?
You cannot ask Google to delete Lens or block it globally. Lens is a free Google service embedded in Chrome, Gmail, Google Photos and the Google app. You have no control over whether Google runs the service.
What you can do is make your specific images unrecognisable to Lens. When an image’s fingerprint changes, Lens cannot match it to the original source or similar results. It sees a new, unindexed image with no product links. This is the practical equivalent of removing access: Lens still runs, but your image yields no useful results.
How does NoScrape alter images so Lens cannot match them?
NoScrape applies four transformations to your image, all in your browser using the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded to our servers or any external service. The first transformation strips all metadata — camera model, GPS location, creation date, copyright tags. Reverse-image search engines use metadata to confirm a match; removing it breaks one chain of recognition.
The second transformation shifts the colour channels slightly. Lens builds its fingerprint partly on colour distribution; a small, deliberate shift changes the fingerprint without making the image visibly wrong to human eyes. The third crops a thin border from the edge of the image. This fractional change disrupts pixel-level fingerprinting algorithms. Finally, NoScrape applies a tiled watermark that repeats across the image at low opacity. The watermark adds visual noise to the fingerprint and serves as a visual deterrent.
Together, these four steps mean the fingerprint of the protected image no longer matches any indexed source. Lens compares it against billions of originals and finds nothing. A client pointing Lens at your mood board gets no results, no product links, no supplier shortcut.
Is my image data sent to NoScrape servers?
No. Every transformation happens in your browser using the Canvas API, the same technology that powers image editors in web applications. Your image is processed on your device, in your browser, without any network request. You download the protected version from your own browser cache. We never see your image, never store it, never log it. This also means the protection is instant: you do not need to wait for a service to process your file or worry about where a copy of your work has gone.
This in-browser approach also means you can protect images offline if you save the tool locally, and you retain full control over when protection happens and what you do with the result.
What image types can you protect, and how should you use the protected version?
NoScrape works on JPEGs, PNGs, WebPs and other common image formats. You can protect mood boards, material swatches, finishes, product photos, layout sketches and any other visual that you want to keep off the reverse-image search circuit.
Once you have the protected version, use it in client presentations, emails and shared documents instead of the original. Share the protected version with collaborators, upload it to your portfolio or website, email it to clients. The original stays safe on your device, never shared. If you need to print or archive the high-resolution original, keep it offline or on a secure server. The protected version is for outbound, shareable use.
Note that protection applies to individual images. If you have a 50-image mood board, you will need to protect each image. Batch protection tools exist within some design platforms; we can advise on workflow if you contact the studio.
What NoScrape does not do, and what it does
NoScrape makes your images invisible to Google Lens and TinEye by changing their fingerprint. It does not provide legal copyright protection, does not register your work with any authority, and does not guarantee that no image theft will ever occur. It is a practical barrier to the most common form of client bypass: casual reverse-image search.
What it does do is remove the incentive and ease of that bypass. A client who uses Lens on your mood board will see a watermark and get no results. They cannot easily find and contact the supplier. Many will stop there and continue working with you. Some will persist and search other ways, but that requires deliberate effort and cost. The protection is pragmatic, not absolute. Its value lies in shifting the balance back toward you: your curation, your specification, your relationship with the client.
